I’ve been enjoying hanging out with friends here in Jowai. Yesterday evening I snapped this photo (on my iPhone, so no actual shutter to snap) at Syntu Ksiar, just as the sun was disappearing behind the hill. Then I went with friends to Shillong for the evening, where we spent the night and returned here to Jowai today.
Last week was the Behdeinkhlam festival here in Jowai. There are other festivals with the same name in other towns, and they are a traditional Pnar festival intended to request blessing from the gods. On the last day each locality carries their floats around the pool (like the one in the picture below), with all the young men dancing around, and then a log is carried to the middle of the pool, and they all rush to try and touch it. Here’s some video of the event on YouTube.
